Gregg Kanter is a commercial litigator practicing in Philadelphia and New York City.

Mr. Kanter has litigated and tried a wide variety of matters, ranging from contract actions, commercial torts, intellectual property, employment law, and creditor's rights. His higher profile cases include class actions concerning Holocaust-era insurance policies, the World Trade Center net lessees' property damage claim arising from 9/11, and Madoff "clawback" claims against European banks.  


Mr. Kanter has been a leader of the bar, a Faculty Member and Program Chair of CLE programs on federal court practice, and has authored numerous articles and bar association reports.  


Before starting his own firm in 2012, Mr. Kanter worked in Philadelphia for Sprague & Sprague and in New York for Flemming Zulack Williamson Zauderer and Cahill Gordon & Reindel.

Representative Cases

Defended French bank against wrongful conversion claim about Hungarian Baroness's gold held in London during WWII.  Obtained dismissal by showing gold was either confiscated by the United Kingdom under its Trading with the Enemy Act legislation or obtained by plaintiff's heirs in the 1950's.

Defended architect against $200 million professional liability claim arising from collapse of WTC 7. Successful on motion for failure to state claim.

Defended Swiss bank against $15.5 million claim by Liechtenstein account holders for the alleged failure to prevent wrongful conduct by the account holders' New York representative.  Successful on motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction.

Represented satellite television distributor in $365 million dispute with program provider over HD rights in license agreements.

Defended French bank against $200 million claim that it conspired with French company to breach fiduciary duties owed to American minority shareholder. Successful on forum non conveniens motion.

Represented Dutch flower bulb grower in action against Pennsylvania bulb distributor.  Obtained judgment recognizing Dutch Judgment, with favorable resolution of issues of first impression.

Represented Chinese national in action against U.S. defendants arising from EB-5 investment.  Obtained judgment for full amount of investment.

Trial Experience

Lead counsel in three-day jury trial of contract action in the Southern District of New York.  Obtained jury verdict exceeding client's demand and $2 million judgment.

Lead counsel in trial of non-discharge action in the Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of New York. Obtained judgment for creditor excepting $2.1 million judgment debt from discharge.

Lead counsel in five-day jury trial defending copyright infringement action in the Southern District of New York.

Lead counsel in three-day trial defending restaurant owner in wage and hour action by delivery workers in the Southern District of New York.

Co-counsel in eight-day trial of contract action in New York Supreme Court. Obtained judgment for full amount of general contractor's counterclaim.

Co-counsel in two-day arbitration to enforce employment agreement for former CFO. Obtained recovery in excess of $2 million, including 25% statutory penalty and attorneys' fees under Pa. law.

Second chaired four-day jury trial of employment law action in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
